Key Responsibilities
As the Substation Engineering Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage substation design projects for utility and renewable energy clients, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Provide technical expertise in substation engineering, including physical design, protection and control design, and grounding.
- Mentor and supervise engineering teams, including junior and mid-level engineers, fostering professional development and maintaining a high-performing team culture.
- Oversee the preparation of technical reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, construction teams, and clients, to align design goals with overall project objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients such as Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, or PPL, leveraging your utility experience to strengthen client relationships and ensure project success.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who bring the following:
- 10+ years of experience in Substation design, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
- Active PE License (Professional Engineer), enabling you to sign off on engineering work and lead design efforts across multiple jurisdictions.
- Significant experience working with major utilities such as Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, or PPL, with a strong understanding of their standards, processes, and requirements.
- Deep knowledge of substation engineering principles, including system protection, physical and electrical layout, SCADA, and control systems.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing engineering team.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
